Local Governing Board

 

Every school has a Local Governing  Board that takes a keen interest in all aspects of school life. The Local Advisory Board includes elected representatives of parents/carers and staff as well as representatives from the local community.  Local Governing Board members hold office for 2 years. The LGB meets at least once every half term discussing issues surrounding Personnel, Teaching and Learning, Resources, Standards, the Curriculum and Finances.

IMPACT OF THE LGB

Last year our governors were involved in:

 

  • recruiting new teachers;
  • seeing that end of key stage tests are administered in line with the Department for Education’s rules;
  • setting a budget for the next three years and monitoring the in-year budget position;
  • monitoring attendance levels and agreeing strategies for improving attendance;
  • ensuring the school fulfils its health and safety and child safeguarding requirements;
  • monitoring the educational attainment and progress of pupils across the school; and
  • setting and measuring performance objectives for Mr Averis (previous Headteacher)
  • ensuring the smooth transition of the move to the new building

 In addition, Ken Cox will be reviewing the quality of our school meals to ensure they are meeting the national Food standards criteria and parents are receiving value for money. 

 Leigh Barshef will be reviewing how the school makes use of Pupil Premium funding (money that is received from central Government to support learning for disadvantaged pupils) and monitoring the impact of how this money is spent.

 The LAB as a whole has reviewed our working practices and identified some areas where we could be more effective. We have undertaken a skills audit to determine our training needs which include learning more about scrutinizing data and preparing for an Ofsted inspection.  We will also be learning more about Safeguarding to ensure we are fully compliant in this most important area.
